A session of Zumba, a cardio-dance routine, can feel like a trip to the nightclub of a cruise ship, where a well-toned crew member teaches you to wiggle your hips and do the fast footwork for a mix of dance styles to the thump of loud music. While Zumba crowds are not plied with alcohol, people often throw away inhibitions — they pump their arms, applaud, let out “yeahs” — as they work out.

Kathryn joined our Fitness Attic
team in 2014. Here is her story in her own words…
My whole life, I was involved in competitive dance and
cheerleading. In college, a combination of external factors, along with no
longer being involved in a team sport, caused me to gain a lot of weight. In
2010, I decided it was time to make a change. I have since made many lifestyle
changes and lost 80 pounds on my fitness journey. One of the first things I
looked for was a way to dance and exercise at the same time, because thats
where my passion lies. A friend of mine invited me to a Zumba class at her gym,
and it was the perfect fit for me. When I moved to Clemson and found Fitness
Attic in the summer of 2014, I was hooked. In September 2014, I received my
Zumba license, and in November received my Zumba Kids + Kids Jr License. I am
thrilled to be a part of the instructor and fitness family at Fitness Attic. I
also teach a Zumba Kids after school program at Pendleton Elementary School,
where I teach fourth grade. Along with Zumba, I like to set other fitness goals
for myself. I just completed my third half marathon, and I'm already preparing
for the next. I believe that this fitness journey we are all on is a lifestyle
that requires determination, dedication, encouragement, and
accountability. What better place to do that than at the Fitness Attic
with the support of your family?
